Blemish removal is an image processing technique used to minimize visible skin imperfections like acne, age spots, freckles, enlarged pores, and redness in portrait photographs. It is applied to cases such as social media profile photos, ID photos, and wedding photography, where smooth, attractive skin is desired.
Approaches include using a healing brush to blend individual blemishes into surrounding skin tones, and applying blur filters to smooth the entire skin surface. The latter is quicker but risks creating an artificial "plastic" appearance if overdone, as it eliminates natural skin texture.
For ID photos, the passport photo tool adjusts a retouched image to passport and ID photo standard sizes. Blemish removal can also be combined with the background removal tool. One approach is to maintain adequate sharpness while targeting only specific problem areas.
