Color Correction

The process of adjusting image colors to achieve natural tones or fix color casts caused by lighting conditions.

Color correction adjusts color shifts caused by lighting conditions or camera settings to restore the subject's natural appearance. It fixes issues like green tints from fluorescent lighting or orange casts from sunset shooting.

Basic color correction includes white balance adjustment, saturation changes, and hue shifts. Setting white balance correctly ensures white objects appear white, which naturally corrects the overall color cast. For finer control, selective adjustments can target specific color ranges.

Color correction differs from color grading in purpose. Correction is a technical fix to restore accurate colors, while grading is a creative process to establish a desired mood. The standard workflow is to correct first, then grade as needed.
