EXIF Data

Metadata automatically embedded in image files by cameras and smartphones, recording shooting conditions, device info, and GPS coordinates.

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a metadata standard developed by JEIDA (now JEITA) that stores shooting information in JPEG and TIFF file headers. Recorded data includes camera model, date/time, shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, focal length, flash status, and GPS coordinates.

While essential for photo management and RAW development workflows, EXIF raises privacy concerns. GPS data can pinpoint exact shooting locations, so removing it before sharing online is recommended. Most social platforms strip EXIF on upload, but file-sharing services often preserve it.

The EXIF removal tool safely strips metadata without altering image appearance. The Orientation tag holds rotation information, so proper removal requires physically applying the rotation before stripping the tag.
