Flip
Mirroring an image horizontally or vertically by reversing the pixel arrangement along an axis.
Flipping mirrors an image along either the horizontal or vertical axis. A horizontal flip (left-right mirror) and a vertical flip (top-bottom mirror) are the two types. Since flipping only rearranges pixel positions, no quality loss occurs.
Horizontal flipping is commonly used to correct selfie photos. Front-facing cameras display a mirrored preview, so text in the captured image may appear reversed. A horizontal flip restores the correct orientation. Vertical flipping is less common and is mainly used for creating reflection effects or design assets.
Combining flips with rotation enables any orientation correction. For example, a 180-degree rotation produces the same result as applying both horizontal and vertical flips. The image crop tool includes flip functionality for adjusting orientation and composition in one step.
